Browser strategy game – Bareking

No download, no install

Open bareking.io, pick a name and a password and you are playing. It works on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chromebooks, and on Android and iOS phones with touch controls. Nothing is installed, and the game keeps your progress on the server.

Strategy that keeps running while you are away

Your buildings produce wood, food, iron and gold every minute while you are in the game, and building upgrades and production queues keep going even when you are offline. Eight buildings go up to level 20 and upgrade in parallel, so planning what to build next matters. Fiefs multiply production, and an army costs food and gold upkeep every minute.

A real player economy

There are no NPC traders. Wood, food, iron and level-one troops are traded for gold in an order book, and every price comes from player orders. The bank at the centre of the map, on its protected grounds, takes deposits and gives loans; interest follows the loan-to-deposit ratio, and an unpaid loan costs you a fief.

Armies, battles and sieges

Train marauders, infantry, archers, cavalry and catapults and level them up to your barracks level. Field battles take five seconds, castle sieges thirty. Each class has its strengths: archers on defence, cavalry in the open, infantry and catapults against walls. Choosing the right mix is the strategy.

Kingdoms and diplomacy

Players join kingdoms or found their own. Kingdoms declare war, make peace, pay tribute and collect tax from the mint. The king is the strongest online member, so leadership is earned, not bought.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bareking free to play?

Yes. There are no real-money purchases; progress comes from production, trade and war.

Does it work on a Chromebook or a school computer?

It runs in any modern browser, including Chrome on Chromebooks. Whether a school or work network allows games is up to that network.

Is it real-time or turn-based?

Real-time. You ride across the map, production ticks every minute and battles resolve on a short countdown.

Do I play against bots?

You play with real people: you can trade, team up or go to war with them. Computer-controlled riders also roam the map to keep it lively; they never attack you, but you can attack them.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Form a squad of up to eight, join the same kingdom, and use chat, private messages and voice chat.
